Combining the latest program innovations and technological advancements
The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services contracted with Affiliated Computer
Services (ACS) to replace the state’s Medicaid Management Information System
(MMIS) . Although Affiliated Computer Services goes by the name ACS, don’t
confuse it with the communications company serving Alaska. The ACS that is building
Alaska’s Medicaid claims processing system is headquartered in Dallas, Texas,
and has the Medicaid expertise to help the Department achieve its vision of maintaining
access to health care and providing health coverage to Alaskans in need.
Affiliated Computer Services is a Fortune 500 company that specializes in business
processes and information technology solutions for commercial and government clients
worldwide. ACS has a successful history in MMIS development. The company will be
providing Alaska with a Medicaid claims processing system that is built upon its
new ACS Health Enterprise product also being developed for New Hampshire and North
Dakota. The Alaska version of ACS Health Enterprise, to be called Alaska Medicaid
Health Enterprise, will provide online information services and support for state
staff, Medicaid providers, and recipients. ACS also supports MMIS and pharmacy systems
for 20 other states. Through these systems, ACS processes almost 475 million Medicaid
claims every year. More than 6 million of those will come through Alaska’s
MMIS annually. Affiliated Computer Services also is working alongside Sierra Systems
Group Inc., a company based in Vancouver, British Columbia that will help support
implementation of new technology through related changes in business processes and
cultural change management.
ACS has a special team working side-by-side with the Department of Health
and Social Services in Anchorage. The department created this website to keep you
informed about the progress of system development during the next two years. Throughout
the project, the department will use this website to communicate project status,
system features, and training schedules.
