Frequently Asked Questions
Provider Enrollment
What provider identifier will Alaska Medicaid Health
Enterprise require for electronic claims?
Providers who are subject to the Federal HIPAA NPI guidelines are required to submit
electronic claims and other transactions using their NPI number. Providers who are
not subject to these guidelines will submit using their Alaska Medicaid Health Enterprise-issued
Medicaid ID number.
Will it be possible to enroll a provider online, including
groups? Will anything have to be submitted in paper form?
Yes, individual and group providers will be able to enroll online. Certain requirements
of the program will continue to require submission of some documents in paper form.
Will it be necessary for providers to enroll in the
new system?
Yes, providers will be required to enroll in Alaska Medicaid Health Enterprise.
Enrollment will be performed using a web enabled interactive process with pre-populated
areas/portions that the provider will need to check for accuracy. Further details
will be provided at a later date, but enrollment will occur prior to the implementation
of the new system.
What is the Provider Enrollment Portal (PEP)?
PEP is an innovative online tool launched August 2, 2010 that makes it easier for new providers
to enroll in the Alaska Medical Assistance Program. The secure website is accessible 24 hours a day,
7 days a week and includes links to numerous websites that can help provide information needed to
complete enrollment. Visit
http://www.medicaidalaska.com
Training (CBT) module is also available at the site.
Who can use the Provider Enrollment Portal (PEP)?
PEP is only available to new providers at this time. You are considered a new provider if you meet one of the following conditions:
- You have never been enrolled in the Alaska Medical Assistance Program
- You are currently enrolled but are now enrolling as a different type of provider
- You are currently enrolled but are using a different TaxID
If a new enrollment does not fall into one of the categories above, you must complete the paper enrollment process. Continue to use
the Change of Information form to request changes to existing provider information.
Is the Provider Enrollment Portal (PEP) part of Alaska Medicaid Health Enterprise, the new Medicaid
Management Information System (MMIS)?
Although it has the look and feel of Alaska Medicaid Health Enterprise, PEP is not part of the new MMIS. However, new providers that
enroll in the current legacy system via PEP will be automatically enrolled in Alaska Medicaid Health Enterprise and will not be
required to reenroll.
