Alaska Medicaid Health Enterprise: Technology for the Future
Date: 01/05/2011
As many of you know, Governor Parnell has named me Acting Commissioner for DHSS. I am
honored to continue to serve the department and am committed to preserving continuity
in service delivery in order to promote and protect the health and well-being of Alaskans.
Change is never easy. We face the prospect of new direction, and the transition before us
will take time and hard work. There is much to be done in the coming months addressing challenges
in Medicaid, upholding fiscal responsibility and meeting the unique needs of Alaska's citizens.
But with your help and input, I believe together, we are up for the challenge.
The new Medicaid Management Information System (MMIS), Alaska Medicaid Health Enterprise is scheduled
for implementation in spring 2012. This progressive MMIS system will incorporate innovative features and
advancements that provide the foundation for future growth and evolution of health information technologies
and Alaska's Medicaid program. Development, also known as construction, of Alaska Medicaid Health Enterprise
has begun on the Alaska-specific requirements. The MMIS Project Management Office (PMO) project team is
focused on manual data set up (configuration), conversion, testing preparations and impacts of 5010. Additionally,
the project has begun to analyze and develop new services that can be implemented early, before Alaska Medicaid
Health Enterprise is fully operational, such as online Provider Enrollment Portal (PEP) and possible web enablement
of some legacy transactions.
As DHSS gets closer to implementation, provider training and outreach will be available on the features and benefits
of Alaska Medicaid Health Enterprise. We are committed to ensuring a positive transition with minimum disruption to
providers, members and state employees while preparing you to take advantage of the new MMIS Alaska Medicaid Health Enterprise.
