9/24/2008 - DHSS Embarks on Largest Project in Department History
The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services has initiated a major project
to significantly improve services available to healthcare providers enrolled in
the medical assistance program. We are replacing the Medicaid Management Information
System (MMIS) that has been in use since 1987 with a new, Enterprise-wide solution
that is the most sophisticated Medicaid system in the healthcare market today.
Work has already begun on the design and development of the new system with implementation
scheduled for Summer 2010.
The new system uses the Internet and a secure website to dramatically change the
way we have done business for the past 20 years. For providers, the new system will
offer many new options for submitting and correcting claims and will also allow
for electronic payments directly into your bank account. Recipients will be able
to access the secure website 24 hours a day to find providers and verify eligibility.
Although the system behind the medical assistance program is changing, we will do
everything we can to ensure you experience a seamless transition. For the
most part, the way claims are submitted will not change; providers will just have
more alternatives for reviewing and monitoring claims as they move through the adjudication
process.
- You will be able to continue submitting claims on paper or electronically.
- Claim forms will remain the same and transaction formats will remain the same.
- You will also be able to enter a claim through the web portal.
With a new, powerful, Enterprise-wide system behind us, we will improve our operations
to be more responsive to your needs by implementing industry best practices in operational
efficiencies. This includes streamlining claims processing, improving call
center assistance, expanding decision support and healthcare analytics, and other
operational services.
We are very excited about the new benefits that will be available through the Alaska
Medicaid Health Enterprise system and hope you will sign up for the e-mail updates
so that you can learn about our progress first-hand.
